Everyday, Jesus humbles himself just as He did when He came from His heavenly throne into the Virgin’s womb; everyday He comes to us and lets us see Him in abjection, when He descends from the bosom of the Father into the hands of the priest at the altar.

Be humble in this life, that God may raise you up in the next. Be truly moderate and do not punish or condemn anyone immoderately. Be gentle so that you may never oppose justice. Be honorable so that you may voluntarily bring disgrace upon anyone. Be chaste so that you may avoid all the foulness of lust like the pangs of death.

We should not accept in silence the benefactions of God, but return thanks for them.

How could I bear a crown of gold when the Lord bears a crown of thorns? And bears it for me!

The best way not to find the bed too cold is to go to bed colder than the bed is.

I wish I could lose myself and never find myself except in God!

His [Christ’s) humanity is the first step down and the last step up on the beautiful spiral of Creation.

The devil is afraid of us when we pray and make sacrifices. He is also afraid when we are humble and good. He is especially afraid when we love Jesus very much. He runs away when we make the Sign of the Cross.

No man can attain to the knowledge of God but by humility. The way to mount high is to descend.

You must ask God to give you power to fight against the sin of pride which is your greatest enemy – the root of all that is evil, and the failure of all that is good. For God resists the proud.

Whatever you do, think not of yourself, but of God.

What will be the crown of those who, humble within and humiliated without, have imitated the humility of our Savior in all its fullness!

The proud man counts his newspaper clippings, the humble man his blessings.

Pride is an admission of weakness; it secretly fears all competition and dreads all rivals.

Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance. Where there is patience and humility, there is neither anger nor vexation. Where there is poverty and joy, there is neither greed nor avarice. Where there is peace and meditation, there is neither anxiety nor doubt.

The fact remains that we are invited to forget ourselves on purpose, cast our awful solemnity to the wind, and join in the general Dance.

If you are discouraged it is a sign of pride because it shows you trust in your own power. Your self-sufficiency, your selfishness and your intellectual pride will inhibit His coming to live in your heart because God cannot fill what is already full. It is as simple as that.

Without the necessary humility to worship, I subconsciously desired to be worshiped, not in a crazy Napoleanic manner, but like a modern-day celebrity.

We shall see clearly that is is greater to despise the world than to have it at one’s command; that it is infinitely preferable to submit to the humblest of men for God’s sake, than to command kings and princes; that a humble knowledge of ourselves surpasses the deepest sciences; in short, that greater praise is due to him who curbs his passions on the most trivial occasions, than to him to conquers the strongest cities and defeats entire armies.

Power isn’t having the world at your fingertips; it is having the world at your fingertips and being able to give it up!
